Earthworks: The Legacy of Ancient Native People and the Promise for Ohio's Future
Dr. Richard Shiels from the Ohio Historical Society will speak on the historical era of Native American activity in the Delaware County and Central Ohio area.
Dr. Shiels is an Associate Professor of History and the Director of the Newark Earthworks Center at The Ohio State University at Newark. He holds a B.A. from Hope College, a Master of Arts in Religion from Yale University and a Ph.D. from Boston University. He has recently received both Ohio State's Alumni Distinguished Teaching Award and its Diversity Enhancement Award; the Newark Earthworks Center has received the Ohio Academy of History's Award for Public Education. Dr. Shiels is the lead scholar on a National Endowment for the Humanity's "Interpreting America's Historic Places" grant, which has funded the creation of the Ancient Ohio Trail web site.
