Kids from birth through age 18 sign up online or at the Library, then keep track of the time spent reading or listening to books. Add the minutes online or come into the Library with your paper reading log. Earn prizes after reading six and twelve hours.
Sign up online by clicking the link above, or come to any of our locations in Delaware, Powell, Orange or Ostrander or our Bookmobile stops. You can join anytime between May 25 and August 4.
You can read anything you want. If you want suggestions, we have lists of “great books” divided by age level (from babies to teens) and adult book discussion titles that we recommend. We also have lists of beginning readers and several topical lists.
Parents, guardians, caregivers and older siblings can read to children. We also have many excellent books on CD that children can listen to.
Children from birth through high school seniors can participate. Adults are encouraged to participate in the summer BINGO challenge, find a monthly adult book discussion or attend other adult program.
We have programs for young children, school age children, teens, families and adults. Program schedules are available at the library or at our online events calendar.
Registration is only needed for a few programs and it will be specified in the program description. If you want more information about any of the programs, please check our online events calendar or call and ask to speak to a Children’s Librarian.
Readers will get a special prize once they've read 6 hours and 12 hours. At 12 hours, all participants will receive a free book, donated by the Friends of the Delaware County District Library.
Yes, teens have a Summer Reading Club and we have teen programs at all 4 locations. Teens are also welcome to attend the family programs or volunteer to help at programs. If you are interested in volunteering, please check our Volunteen page for details.
Adults are encouraged to participate in our summer BINGO challenge. By attending programs and reading throughout the summer, spaces are earned on the BINGO card and finished cards can be entered for prizes. Stop by your local branch or check out the calendar and the book discussions to get involved.
Absolutely! In fact, new this year, families can also register online for the Summer Letterbox Adventure! The online component uses the same clues as the booklet, but makes it convenient so you can follow the clues on your smart phone while you're in the parks. Families may also pick up a Preservation Parks Summer Letterbox Adventure booklet at the library (or a park) and decide which parks to visit. At each park you follow clues in the booklet or online until you find a small box that has a rubber stamp and a code. Stamp your booklet or enter the code online to show that you found the box. If you find the boxes in all eight parks by August 4, you'll get a prize! Click here to see how much fun our friend Gnomie had Letterboxing at Preservation Parks.
